Gränges joins Polestar 0 project aiming at climate-neutral car 2030

01 Feb 2023 | GROUP RELEASE

Polestar 0 is a project with the ambition to create a truly climate-neutral car by 2030. With leading expertise in rolled aluminium, Gränges will contribute to research and development of circular and low-climate impact aluminium materials and processes in this partnership.

“We’re seeking to collaborate with companies who share our sustainability ambitions and net-zero target. To get there, we need to accelerate in all parts of the value chain, from material sourcing, recycling, product development and production processes and all the way to the use of the end product. The partnership for Polestar 0 is an excellent example of how we use our expertise in sustainable materials and processes to help customers and partners on their decarbonization journeys”, says Jörgen Rosengren, CEO of Gränges.

Sustainability is at the core of Gränges’ strategy and the company has shown a strong performance towards its ambitious targets for circularity and climate neutrality 2040. The company continuously drives the development of lighter, smarter and more sustainable solutions in close collaboration with customers and partners.

The Polestar 0 project launched in 2021 with the belief that the car industry needs a full reset. While the switch to electric vehicles eliminates tailpipe emissions, Polestar recognises the need to urgently address emissions that stem from production. The ambitious aim of the Polestar 0 project is to eliminate all sources of CO2e throughout the supply chain, from the extraction of raw materials to material and vehicle production, delivery and end of life, without relying on misleading offsetting schemes.

Hans Pehrson, Head of the Polestar 0 project, comments: “We are excited to announce Gränges as a new partner on the Polestar 0 project. Their unique expertise in rolled aluminium technology will be a valuable asset for our team. The technology is highly needed in various areas of a modern electric vehicle, and we look forward to working closely with Gränges as we strive towards our goal of creating a truly climate-neutral car by 2030.”
