Aluminium powders have been at the core of our business for over 30 years. We use spray-forming to produce aluminum powders of the highest quality in our French facility in St. Avold. Spray-forming is a type of gas atomization process that yields spherical and homogeneous particles, ideal for many types of applications. We have a spraying capacity of 3000 tons per year and we work with a large portfolio of industrial companies globally. Two alloys of our low CTE DISPAL® portfolio, DISPAL® S220, and DISPAL® S260, are qualified for Additive Manufacturing Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and they are able to create fully dense metal parts with short lead times. The freedom of design provided by AM in combination with the advanced material properties of DISPAL provides designers with a powerful tool to create advanced applications.

Our powders come with 3 different off-the-shelf PSD options and different packaging possibilities depending on your needs and quantity:

  • Standard (20-63 um)
  • Fine (15-45 um)
  • Coarse (45-100)

Why are DISPAL® alloys so special?

DISPAL® alloys are characterized by high silicon content. Thanks to spray-forming the alloys solidify extremely quickly during manufacturing resulting in extremely fine grain and homogeneous micro-structure without inclusions or oxides. The properties of these alloys are unique, and they are already used in many industries, from linear technology to optics and automotive:

  • High strength (Rm up to 750 MPa)
  • Improved fracture toughness (KIC up to max. 115 MPa •√m)
  • High-temperature strength up to 450°C
  • High fatigue strength of 220 MPa by R=-1 and RT (180 MPa at T=150°C)
  • High stability and stiffness (Young’s modulus up to 115 GPa)
  • Brilliant wear behavior (Hard Coat not necessary) – same level as cast iron alloys
  • Customized thermal expansion rates (α =14 •10-6/K to α = 23 •10-6/K) – ideal for lightweight applications with requirements of minimal deformation
  • Good thermal conductivity (90–160 W/m/K)
  • Excellent forging and machinability
